How does Greyhound bus work?
Greyhound uses three classes of fares. Economy and Economy Extra passengers pay nonrefundable fares, are charged $20 to make ticket changes, and get one free carry-on and one free checked bag. Economy Extra passengers also get priority boarding and earn more rewards points than Economy passengers.
Is Greyhound a train?
Greyhound is one of the largest operators of Amtrak’s Thruway Motorcoach service even though the two companies are competitors in some markets. Amtrak issues rail passengers a ticket for a regularly scheduled Greyhound route that connects with their train, often with buses making a stop at the train station.
Why are Greyhound buses so bad?
Because they’re dirt cheap since a destination that would take 3 hours from a to b in a car takes 5 or 6 hours due to detours and layovers. The plain fact is that more poor people take the bus because it is cheap.

You are pretty safe inside the Greyhound bus station, but outside is a whole different ballgame. I personally know several people who have been robbed right outside of Greyhound bus stations. Stay inside and don’t risk encountering an incident that could end your trip (or worse).
Do Greyhound busses stop for food?
We don’t sell food or drink on our buses, so it’s a good idea to stock up on food and drinks before boarding (not alcoholic drinks though, they’re not allowed). But if you forget, the bus does stop frequently (check your itinerary to see how often), and some stops will have places to buy food.
Do you tip a Greyhound bus driver?
Its a regular Greyhound and Greyhound drivers aren’t tipped! Perhaps if they help with luggage, make a put stop @ a good place etc. you may want to tip them if they are allowed to accept tips!
Is Megabus nicer than Greyhound?
What I found: Both rides were comfortable, relatively on time, seemed safe, and were mostly clean (except for the bathrooms – you’ll want to avoid these if at all possible). Megabus offered a slightly better price and a younger clientele. Greyhound had better places to wait and more convenient travel times.

Amtrak is more comfortable, Greyhound is more flexible. Greyhound is cheap and goes everywhere, but is the least pleasant possible experience. Amtrak is lovely but much much more expensive (e.g. $100+ for a 3 hour ride).
